Kay Shakespeare
B.Ed., NILD CET
From a young age, growing up in England, I knew I wanted to be both a mother and a teacher. I graduated college with a Bachelor of Education and became a public elementary school teacher, a role I enjoyed for 12 years before our family relocated to Texas. There, I homeschooled my two young boys, managed a technology education company, and helped co-found a university model school.
As my sons headed off to university, I began tutoring and homeschooling students in my local community. It was during this time that I realized some children needed more than just traditional teaching—they needed a different kind of support. Around the same time, a bright young lady shared with me how school had left her feeling worthless and unintelligent, a heartbreaking sentiment echoed by others. A favorite worship song of mine includes the lyrics, “Break my heart, Lord, for what breaks yours,” and it was clear that God was stirring a new desire in me: to offer an alternative to academic failure and the damaging effects it can have on a child’s self-esteem.

My path took a pivotal turn when I met a little girl who needed more than a traditional education could offer. In my search for solutions I had heard about NILD but it was a "chance" encounter with an educational therapist in a coffee shop that ignited my resolve to become a specialist in the program.

Since then, I have had the privilege of working in two private Christian schools in Texas and Florida, both committed to providing the NILD program to their students. Over the past seven years, I’ve witnessed firsthand how NILD Educational Therapy helps students break through their challenges, recognize their strengths, and transform their educational journeys.

Today, I am a fully trained Professionally Certified Educational Therapist living in Safety Harbor, Florida, near part of my family, including my granddaughter, who also receives NILD Educational Therapy. It is an absolute joy to support her growth, just as I have with so many others.

If you have concerns about your child’s academic progress, I would be honored to be part of their story and help them unlock their full potential.
